Eyelid Surgery in My Forties

Eyelid Surgery in My Forties

For sometime I had been noticing a sag in my eyelids. It wasn’t in the dead center of my eye, which is typical, it was more out to the side of my eyes and just gave me a tired look. I got to thinking and pinching my extra skin. Four years ago I underwent chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer so I have a little droop in my right brow. The droop in the brow and the sagging lids weren’t going to get better on their own. I had asked Dr. Cawthon to take a look and see how involved a little tightening would be for the lids.

pinchDr. Cawthon described a “pinch” technique for my upper lids. He pushed on my upper eye and felt that there wasn’t fat behind the bulge and a little tightening of the muscle and trim of the extra skin would be the perfect remedy to brighten my eyes. The droop in my brow could be lifted with a little “brow pexy” but, I wasn’t concerned about that this go round.

I loved the idea of brighter eyes and the way he described the procedure I was prepared for about 1 week of ointment application, bruising and “taking it easy.” The taking it easy part was most appealing.

So on a Tuesday afternoon around 2 o’clock we made it happen. Honestly having my aesthetician pluck my eyebrows was more painful than having this procedure done. I used topical numbing cream for about 20 minutes so I wouldn’t feel the little numbing needle.

Dr. Cawthon was so gentle and reassuring letting me know his every next step. It took about 25 minutes for the first eye to be complete. He let me take a peek and I LOVED what I saw. Humorously he said, “let’s make it happen on the other side.”

I was on my way home around 4:00 with very welcoming cold gel packs on my eyes. I propped myself up in bed and began to “take it easy.”

My children were competing in a tennis tournament over the weekend so big sunglasses were par for the course. The bruising settled in about day 3 but with the help of camouflage make up I only had to divulge my secret to my closest friends.

I LOVE my brighter eyes! I will still continue to keep up my Botox around my crows feet and I also started back on my Latisse to enhance my lashes.

This was a quick and easy pick me up for this 41 year old gal.
